The Fray

Photobucket

The Fray debuted back in 2005 with their first album How To Save a Life. They went double platinum in the U.S. thanks to their single being played on Grey's Anatomy. Now they're back with their self-titled sophomore effort, which is a solid one if I don't say so myself. Not much has changed in their musical direction. They are still producing Coldplay-like piano ballads. With The Fray, the majority of their songs will lose the listener because they can be a bit boring but then three quarters of the way through a climactic burst of instrumentals and vocals will wake you up and persuade you to re-listen to the song. If you were a fan of their last album then you ill enjoy this one as well, it's like disc 2.

Track List:

1. Syndicate
2. Absolute
3. You Found Me
4. Say When
5. Never Say Never
6. Where the Story Ends
7. Enough For Now
8. Ungodly Hour
9. We Build Then We Break
10. Happiness

Au Revoir Simone

Photobucket

"Au Revoir Simone is an indie pop band from Brooklyn, New York that formed in late 2003. The group consists of Erika Forster (vocals/keyboard), Annie Hart (vocals/keyboard), and Heather D’Angelo (vocals/drum machine/keyboard)."

Their song "The Lucky One" is a smooth mellow indie song. Their soft warm vocals over the chimes and piano is what makes the song what it is.

Natalie Walker

Natalie Walker is another talented female vocalist waiting to get her big break. Her album "With You is a cool, elegant collection of ethereal songs with a warm beating heart, music that retains the stylish, spacey vibe of her debut while revealing an accentuated pop flavor. This is music that's insinuating and alluring". This album was released back in 2006. Just goes to show the endless amopunt of talent that get overlooked.

In Music News...

Well it's an OFFICIAL wrap for girl group Danity Kane. This is no suprise in more ways than one. From Diddy dropped the bomb of kicking out Aubrey O'day and telling D. Woods she could leave, no one actually expected this group to stay alive after a hard hit like that. All pop acts have a time limit, it's just how much they're willing to sacrifice and how hard they plan on working to stay relevant.

However things are looking up for Dawn Richard. She was kept on by Diddy as a solo act and will also have a featured spot on Diddy's upcoming untitled album. It's too bad though with the success of Danity Kane's last two albums, the third might have just been the charm to solidify them as international pop stars. Now the countdown begins on how long it will be before Day26 breaks up.

Jennifer Hudson is finally back to work on the set of her music video for "If This Isn't love". She is also set to perform the National Anthem at this Sunday's Superbowl and at the Grammys the following Sunday. All this work is the perfect distraction she needs right now.

Yesterday news spread like wildfire about the confirmation of the professional split between Kelly Rowland and Matthew Knowles. Knowles, manager of Destiny's Child, the solo careers of the members and manager to second daughter Solange Knowles, has finally been smacked in his face. Below are two statements regarding the split

Kelly Rowland
“Mathew Knowles has been a positive influence in my career. I have had great success under his guidance — both as a member of Destiny’s Child and with my solo projects. Although we have decided to part ways professionally, the Knowles family and the entire Music World Entertainment team will always be my family.”

Matthew Knowles
“After a very positive meeting between Kelly Rowland and myself, we have amicably agreed to end our professional relationship. My company, Music World, will continue to manage Destiny’s Child as a group. As an artist Kelly has incredible talent and I only wish her the best. We will always be family first and foremost, and as a dad I only have love for Kelly.”

All I have to say it's about time. Those statements seem so fake. Of course with public statements you have to have some sort of dignity and class but I know inside Knowles is pissed as hell and Rowland is smiling from ear to ear. As time progresses we'll see if Kelly's poor performance as a solo artist really had to do with Knowles being her manager.

RYAN LESLIE

Photobucket

Ryan Leslie, graduated Harvard at the age of 19 and has produced the hits, Cassie's "Me & U", Beyonce's "Keep Giving Your Love to Me", JoJo's "Like That", etc.., is finally seeing his self-titled album release. He's the male version of Keri Hilson in the sense that they're both extremely talented musicians, he a singer/ producer and she a singer/songwriter, and for some unfortunate reason keep getting they're albums postponed. He dropped his first single "Diamond Girl" in late 07' and second single "Addiction" in August of 08'. Neither garnered any major success but did fairly well on urban radio. As for the album itself, it's what I expected but that's not a bad thing at all, a solid effort filled with smooth/chilled R&B tracks. Due to the constant delay on this album he probably will not score any hits but that doesn't mean this album isn't packed with reapeat worthy material.

Usually we post the full allbum download link but since I'm a fan of his music I'm going to just give you guys a listen of the album. However I will post the download link for "Gibberish". This track is MY JAM, from when I saw the making of this song mannnny months ago I was hooked. Oh yes, R. Les. produced all of his own material for the album, genius huh? Don't forget Ryan Leslie, FEBRUARY 10th, pick it up.

STYLEZINE: High-End Bahamian Editorial

Photobucket

Today showcased the launch of the January Issue of Stylezine, an online magazine of the arts and entertainment. The January issue's cover boys are ScharadL and Farreno "FDOT" F, two prominent photographers in The Bahamas. I could use Bahamian a million times to describe the work as if it automatically gives a badge of excellence but I believe the work should speak for itself and that's just what it does. I use it in the title to simply show that talent is international only waiting to be discovered.

From articles on U.S. President Obama to the Louis Vuitton Don Kanye West, Stylezine offers full media coverage and I can't forget the fashion editorials for ladies and gents. Gracing many of the pages for the editorials is Erinn Treco, a friend of mine and a multiple-threat. Head on over to the website to view this month's issue free of charge and then subscribe.

Baldwin Hills Season 3

Photobucket

Tonight is the season 3 premiere of Baldwin Hills at 10pm on the BET network. If you do not know the show Baldwin Hills, to describe it to you, it's basically The Hills with a little more pigment and a lot more sense. We see old faces return as well as some new ones this season. So sad, LOR...RENA will not make a return this season, no lie she made half the show with her over the top/dramatic personality. Although she's gone, from the promos it seems this season will still have a high entertainment value. So tune in tonight, for those of you who still have BET, for a new season of laughs and drama. This show is one of the VERY few reasons to watch BET anymore.

Something Tells Me Jay-Z’s Money isn’t Going Anywhere

Photobucket

In the blogging world, when an unheard of track from Jay-Z is made available to us it's the equivalent to tossing a single piece of red meat to a pack of starved wolves. The bangin' beat mixed with symphonic strings make for the perfect instrumental to match the grandiosity that is Mr. Carter's lyrics.

This song right here was the one that persuaded me to search for Lykke Li and to discover her talent. Sure I knew about "Little Bit" but I was listening to a song without knowing the artist. There is just one line to describe this video... Simplicity is art.

Ron Browz "Jumpin' Out the Window" Video Premiere

As much as I think Ron Browz lacks every ounce of real talent that an artist should have, he and his vocoder make for some fun songs. I can't deny, "Jumpin Out the Window With this One" has me bouncin' off the walls.

Just the other day "Prom Queen" leaked and already another rock single, or supposed single, from The Rebirth has made its way into the blogosphere. "Hot Revolver" was actually was laying around the internet a few months ago but it's now in better quality via The Leak 6. I hope this Green Day sampled track pushes it as a quick second single to "Prom Queen".

In Music News...

It seems that Coldplay has already started working on their new album, the follow up to the mega-successful Viva La Vida... The announcement was made via Twitter (something I still have yet to join). Back with them is Brian Eno, the man who produced a good amount of material for them on the last album. I don't know what to think of this, usually when artists return too quickly from success, their material is weak, with the exception of Rihanna. She released three albums in two and half years with the third being the biggest seller and most complex.

It was announced today that ultra-eclectic rock group Radiohead will be performing at The 51st Grammy's ceremony next Sunday, the 8th of February. As much as I love The Grammy Awards, it's one big snooze fest with a few highlights. It seems as though that fact is finally registering in the Grammy folks' minds and they're trying to correct it. The rest of the performance line-up confirmed thus far is; Paul McCartney (with special guest drummer Dave Grohl), Kenny Chesney, Coldplay, Jennifer Hudson, Jonas Brothers, Lil Wayne, Katy Perry, Carrie Underwood, Justin Timberlake, T.I., Kanye West and Lil Wayne.

Biggie Down... Aaliyah Ready to Go

Photobucket

With one biopic of an icon in hip-hop music released, a biopic of an r&b icon is getting ready to take off. This would be none other than Aaliyah.

I had no idea they were giving the big budget treatment to this biopic. Warner Bros. is heading this one and Bill Condon, director of "Dreamgirls", will be directing it. Below is a full rundown of what great lengths the studio is going to to make this superb.

"We are going to great extremities to make this movie perfect. We have Chante in extensive training studying, speaking with family members, watching personal footage and in choreography training with Aaliyah's choreographer and dear friend Fatima Robinson. This movie will be seamless the same way it was for Selena fans who enjoyed Jennifer Lopez. I can promise Aaliyah fans that this movie will be ten notches higher."

A source for the film reveals that they "will be going very deep into Aaliyah's life" and will allow fans to see the "most intimate side of Aaliyah's legacy." Sources say the script for the film 'holds no bars' and will go as far as touching on the subject of Aaliyah's highly debated and publicized marriage and annulment to producer R.Kelly.

"This movie will showcase Aaliyah in a new light. Fans will be so proud of this piece" says Condon.

Canadian singer Keshia Chante on playing the role, "Aaliyah inspired me and an entire generation. She was stunning, effortless and was capable of so many things. This is a hard undertaking, I have big shoes to fill but I am committed, determined and will train to the very end to master this role. I want Aaliyah's fans and admirers to be proud of this film and feel like it was the best interpretation possible of our babygirl. I refuse to disappoint."

Chante's acting resume is new, only now getting the lead role in a new television series entitled "Soul" that she shot only but a few months ago up north. Condon assures us that Chante was best for the role, stating "She was born ready for this role. I knew she was the one the moment she stepped into our audition."

I'm a little excited to see this one and Keshia Chante couldn't look anymore like Aaliyah, so let's hope her acting is top notch too. Timbaland, Missy Elliott, Ginuwine & Hype Williams are all set to play themselves in the movie. You all know they're going to be in The Bahamas recreating scenes so there'll be a few locals prowling the place.

Lil Wayne Takes a Break from Hip-Hop for Rock & Roll

Photobucket
Via: MTV News

Lil Wayne, considered to be the best by many and himself alike, is ready to explore his musical tastes. Lil Wayne plans on releasing his full Rock & Roll album on April 7th ,entitled The Rebirth. Here's what he told MTV:

"I don't know if we're gonna release Tha Carter IV now," he told MTV News on his tour bus. "I think we're gonna release Tha Carter III — a new Carter III with none of the same songs, though. None of them. Not one! We don't wanna call the [next album] we got coming out Tha Carter IV. That was the dilemma we were in. We want Carter IV to be what everybody wants it to be.

"This is something brand new, so we don't want it to be some experimental thing, 'cause some people are not gonna like this. I don't want them to not like Tha Carter IV. But I do have an album coming soon, very soon, and it's gonna be called ... Tha Carter III: The Rebirth. The birth of a new beginning."

Those plans have been changed a bit. Wayne's rep told MTV News that the April 7 release has absolutely nothing to do with Tha Carter III or any of his previous hip-hop efforts.

The slight change of plans for Tha Carter III.5 is a bit of a suprise but the Rock & Roll jump isn't. We've seen Weezy show love for the genre many times particularly in his video for "Leather So Soft" and his collaboration with Kevin Rudolf in "Let It Rock". This is a good thing and it will further transcend the genre of hip-hop, similar to when Jay-Z collaborated with Linkin' Park for the behemoth mash-up album.

With that, today the first single leaked entitled "Prom Queen". I'm feelin it for sure and will probably pick up the album closer to its release date instead of waiting, like I did with Tha Carter III. It's a solid track and the most important thing about it, Weezy taking on Rock & Roll sounds natural. Check it out!

Katy Kelly: 2nd Single Demo

Photobucket

With Kelly Clarkson determined to comeback from the less than successful My December released about two years ago she and her people have enlisted the help of one of 2008's breakout artists Katy Perry. Kelly's second single "I Do Not Hook Up", partially written by Katy Perry, is another great pop track that the radios will eat up. Below is Katy Perry singing the demo version, which in my opinion will sound better when kelly sings over it.
